Smashburger is smashing its way across the pond. This is Smashburger’s initial entry into the United Kingdom, with 35 restaurants expected to open. The launch of Smashburger in the United Kingdom will expand the brand footprint to eight countries.

SynCardia receives FDA approval
SynCardia Systems, Inc. has received FDA approval to conduct an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical study on the effective use of its smaller 50cc SynCardia temporary Total Artificial Heart. “This study will allow smaller patients who can’t fit the 70cc Total Artificial Heart to benefit from SynCardia’s Total Artificial Heart technology,” says Michael P. Garippa, President and CEO of SynCardia Systems, Inc. “Together, both device sizes are intended to make Total Artificial Hearts available to most women and men as well as many adolescents.”

Smashburger named a Top 10 ”Promising Company” by Forbes
) has been ranked number six on Forbes third annual America’s Most Promising Companies list. Smashburger previously ranked number one on the inaugural list but did not apply for the list last year. Smashburger currently has 256 locations worldwide, up from 200 a year ago. Iron Gate Capital first invested in Smashburger in January 2010 when the company had just 35 stores in operation.

SynCardia Systems Sets Record for Heart Implants in 2013
SynCardia Systems, Inc. (www.syncardia.com
), manufacturer of the world’s first and only FDA, Health Canada and CE (Europe) approved Total Artificial Heart, announced it set a record of 161 TAH implants in 2013, up from 125 in 2012 and 81 hearts in 2011. More than 1,250 TAHs have been implanted worldwide, accounting for more than 335 patient years on the device. Iron Gate Capital first invested in Syncardia Systems in February 2011. .
